Honors College

This fall, 25 students in Mason’s Honors College enrolled in a class focusing on the changing status of men in American history.

The Honors College Connects Hackathon gathered students in George Mason University’s MIX at Horizon to solve problems faced by local nonprofits.

Tharuna Kalaivanan carves out a vital space for first-generation college students in the world of academic research at Mason. After earning her B.A. in Psychology in the spring of 2020, Kalaivanan continues to make an impact on the Honors College.

Rebecca Howick has over 14 years of experience at George Mason and has focused over 8 years of her career on entrepreneurship education at CIE. Rebecca is a proud alumna of George Mason (M.E.d., ‘15). Her educational background in social work and counseling/human development contributes to CIE's focus on creating programs that support social impact and experiential learning. She is responsible for the leadership of the operational team and supporting the Executive Director in developing and implementing strategic initiatives.

Incoming Mason freshman and EIP graduate Muhammad Farhan Babar is no stranger to helping others.

With 80,000 streams on Spotify, music technology major Jessica Taylor is on a fast track to her goal of a successful career in the music industry. She sees her time at Mason as an opportunity to advance her skills as a singer, songwriter and producer by taking courses in music theory, keyboard and voice lessons.

After coming to the United States from El Salvador to join her mother late in 2010, she enrolled in Mason's Early Identification Program and was an academic star at Freedom High School in Woodbridge, Virginia.

Leah and Peregrine Pistone, incoming freshmen at George Mason University, are used to learning together. The siblings were homeschooled by their mother throughout their K-12 years. While they say they are grateful for the experience, they both are looking forward to engulfing themselves in a large university environment with diverse classmates.

Dr. Anthony Hoefer was recognized with the Teaching Excellence Award on May 7, 2021.

Honors College instructor and University Libraries Lead of Teaching and Learning was recognized with the 2021 Adjunct Teacher of Distinction Award for her excellence as an instructor.
