First-year University Scholars who reside on campus will be co-located on the same hall in the Honors College Learning Community (LC), and all first-year Scholars will take the 1-credit UNIV 160 University Scholars Transition Seminar led by the director of the program in their first semester.
This course, just for University Scholars, is intended to: |
- Provide guidance and support as students transition from high school
- Encourage students to engage in college life and the Mason community
- Assist in building academic skills, and familiarize new college students with resources available to them at the university
- Engage with students from other backgrounds and different experiences, and consider the variety of identities within their cohort and themselves,
- Produce and refine resumes and cover letters,
- Identify opportunities on and off campus that they would like to pursue
- Meet with upper-level Scholars and program alumni to envision what might be possible in the coming four years,
- Reflect on their intentions and purpose as a college student and student leader,
- Contemplate the responsibility and opportunity of their position as scholarship recipients.
