A group of students in the George Mason University Honors College won the Alumni Choice Award on December 5 for their work with insurance provider Anthem BlueCross BlueShield – an insurance provider – on improving user engagement with their app.

Sophia Taylor, a George Mason University Honors College student, received the Community Choice Award on December 5 for her research on legislative framework concerning availability of museum resources and exhibits.

Abigail Reynolds, a first-year George Mason University Honors College student, won the Community Choice Award for her research into how historical redlining continues to impact climate and social vulnerabilities in the United States.

This year’s Winter Commencement student speaker Ayham Elayan is graduating from George Mason University this week with a bachelor of science in bioengineering with a pre-health concentration.

George Mason University will honor nearly 5,300 students graduating or earning certificates at Winter Commencement at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at EagleBank Arena on the Fairfax Campus.

For first-year Schar School student Bora Yoon, identity and advocacy are inseparable. As a woman, a person of color, a child of immigrants, and an LGBTQ+ student, she says her story fuels her drive to pursue political study—and to fight for equity for everyone.

Honor College student Cashlyn Bonds said her time at George Mason University has been defined by her passion for justice, human security, and international understanding.  

Students in Tawnya Azar’s HNRS 260 Society and Community Engagement course are focused creating awareness campaigns around hunger and food scarcity. The class aims to empower students through writing and collaborative efforts, fostering a critical examination of the challenges surrounding food access and inspiring tangible solutions. 

A multi-major team from George Mason University’s College of Engineering and Computing earned second place at Saucethon, a hardware-focused hackathon, gaining online attention for their creative cat-themed rescue robot and showcasing George Mason’s collaborative, interdisciplinary strength.

There are few George Mason University students as busy as senior Rakibul Alam. A senior majoring in business and concentrating on management and marketing, Alam has become one of the most visible student leaders in the Costello College of Business, where he works as a marketing and communications intern. Recently he was among the speakers welcoming the community at Fuse’s grand celebration in September at Mason Square.

Not often can you take a course where you receive top-level instruction for how to prepare for a career, while also having the opportunity to give back to the world around you; but that is exactly what students in Costello’s BUS 303 class experienced this past spring semester when they planned and hosted multiple “Humanitarian Happy Hours.”
