- February 18, 2026From October to mid-February, the Venerable Buddhist monks of the Dhammacetiya Huong Dao Vipassana Bhavana Center of Fort Worth, Texas walked more than 2,300 miles to Washington, D.C. Known as the Walk for Peace, their goal was to raise awareness of the global need for peace as well as how we can practice and foster peace in our own lives and neighborhoods.
- February 17, 2026Graduating senior Mariamme Latif Estafan grew up as virtually the only child of immigrants in her hometown in New Jersey. Once she arrived at George Mason University, she found outlets for her desire to study—and improve—the immigrant experience.

- February 11, 2026At the end of January, three George Mason University students presented their research at the Network for Undergraduate Research in Virginia (NURVa) Undergraduate Research Showcase at the Capitol in Richmond. Now in its second year, the event gives undergraduates from each of NURVa’s 13 member universities an opportunity to present their research to state legislators and fellow researchers alike. Students worked with faculty through George Mason’s Office of Student Creative Activities and Research (OSCAR) to refine their work and apply to the selective event.

- January 20, 2026In partnership with Children’s National Hospital, George Mason University scientists have discovered a new way to detect early signs of kidney damage in childhood patients with Sickle Cell Disease. Atwo-year $200,000 grant from the Commonwealth Health Research Board will support this work.
- January 12, 2026George Mason University is preparing students to transform setbacks into stepping stones with a “Fail-a-Thon," a hackathon event where failing forward is the goal. The event, hosted by the College of Engineering and Computing, encouraged students to explore bold ideas under two themes: artificial intelligence (AI) for everyday challenges and tech for well-being and creativity.
- January 7, 2026George Mason University film and video studies students are working with Entertainment 2 Affect Change (E2AC), an organization that provides creative students and individuals the opportunity to use storytelling to share the mission and impact of local nonprofits.
- December 26, 2025George Mason University Honors College student Cora Jackson was awarded the Schwartzstein Prize for First-Year Research on December 5 for her project on tribal water rights in the Colorado River Basin.
- December 26, 2025A group of George Mason University Honors College students were awarded the Alumni Choice Award on December 5th for their excellence in creating a comprehensive quarterly newsletter for the local Community of Faith Food Pantry.
