Every fall since 1989, the Honors College has provided outstanding entering first-year students – known as University Scholars – with four year, full-tuition scholarships.
This investment prepares a diverse and multidisciplinary group of problem-solvers to take on the grand challenges and opportunities of the future.
Removing financial barriers attracts exceptional applicants to the Greater Washington region from around the country and helps retain highly motivated first-generation college students who attended local high schools, contributing to our regional workforce.
Our scholarship priority is expanding the University Scholars program while providing University Scholars a full funding package covering the full cost of attendance.
Promise Scholar Sponsorships
The Promise Scholarships provide University Scholars comprehensive scholarships that include room and board, fees and additional costs, and a stipend to support research and professional development costs for four years. With increased donor support, Promise Scholar scholarships can be made available to the highly qualified University Scholars in all of Mason’s schools and colleges.
Sponsors of Promise Scholars receive:
- Recognition for you or your company on the Honors College supporter’s webpage, with logo and link.
- Creation of a named Promise Scholarship to be awarded to a single student for four years
- Coordination with your social media or communications team on development of a communication plan around social media post(s) and press releases about awardees, with at least two posts on Honors College social media recognizing each award you sponsor.
- The opportunity to engage directly with the Promise Scholar and/or provide additional optional support, such as internships, to this student.
Endowed Promise Scholar Sponsor: estimated $1.5 million
Endowing Sponsors of Promise Scholarships work with our Advancement team to create a scholarship endowment that provide ongoing comprehensive support of Promise Scholars for years to come.
Sustaining Promise Scholar Sponsor: $250,000 for four years
Sustaining Sponsors of Promise Scholarships will fund a new comprehensive Promise Scholarship for 4 years
Promise Scholar Sponsor: $100,000 for four years
Sponsors of Promise Scholarships fund a scholarship that supplements an existing University Scholars scholarship paid for by the University, converting this to a comprehensive scholarship for 4 years.
Scholarships outside of the University Scholars program
Sponsors of Scholarships and Awards may also work with our Advancement team to create other scholarship endowments and time-limited awards. Past examples include scholarships to support studying abroad, the cultivation of professionals in particular fields (such as national security and international development), and the encouragement of engaged citizenship. This support enables the provision of financial assistance to students across various disciplines, fostering academic achievement and career readiness in a global context.
